Housing Choice Voucher Program

This Program, also known as Section 8, is designed to allow flexibility and mobility to low income families in their housing choices within the Sarasota/Bradenton area. Participants pay only a portion of the rent, based on income, utilities and other factors. The balance is then guaranteed to the owner from Sarasota Housing Authority.

Public Housing Program

SHA public housing program provides federally subsidized rental properties that are owned and managed by SHA to low-income families of Sarasota. Residents pay only a portion of the rent based on income– which never exceeds 30% of a family’s income. Each of our three properties has their own application, and you may apply to more than one. Applications for Public Housing are available at the following SHA offices:

• Orange Avenue Property Office, located at 1912 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota, FL 34234;
• McCown Tower Property Office (Elderly Only), located at 1300 Blvd. of the Arts, Sarasota, FL 34236;

Section 8 New Construction

SHA manages a 5 story, 75 unit property located at 1320 Blvd. of the Arts for both elderly and disabled individuals. All units are one bedroom. Residents pay only a portion of the rent based on income – which never exceeds 30% of a family’s income.
