Sarasota Housing Authority went through a two part procurement process in 2006 to select Michaels Development Company as our master developer for all phases of SHA's Newtown Redevelopment Plan. Michaels is a nationally recognized, private sector firm with over 35 years of experience in producing top quality, affordable housing. All aspects of housing development, from site acquisition through property management, are within the expertise and experience of the company and its affiliates. Since the early 1970s, the Michaels Development Company has successfully developed over 40,000 housing units in 27 states, the District of Columbia and the U. S. Virgin Islands. Michaels was recently ranked the #1 affordable housing developer in the country by Affordable Finance Magazine in 2007 (pdf). Milton Pratt, who is a Senior Vice President with Michaels, is overseeing SHA's redevelopment for Michaels.
